The Bridal Trousseau
90cm by 55cm by 60cm
Installation
This installation is very special to me. When I travelled to Kutch for a photography trip, I spent a few days with the local villagers learning their crafts. While I was walking through the small lanes of the Banni village I was struck by colourful skirts and intricate jewellery which were being made by young girls. They told me that they were making their own Trousseau. Their grandmother would teach them how make merchandise for their future husbands family as a Dowry, which is a social evil.
